Mexico

Mexico Segment Summary

Hosted by “El Educateco” (Archu), presenting himself as a luchador with the motto “lucha por la educación”. The segment covers innovation in Tepic and a national teacher community.

Tech + Art Tech + PE Teacher Community

Colegio Simón Bolívar (Tepic, Nayarit)

A private, secular, trilingual school near the Pacific coast using technology to enhance teaching and learning.

School Profile

  • Focus: Strong digital culture, socio-emotional education, and student wellbeing.
  • Motto: “Think global, act local” (service and environmental projects).
  • Values: Respect, freedom, responsibility, equity, justice.
“Innovating is not changing everything, but looking at the same thing with new eyes.” — Oscar (PE Teacher)

Tech + Art: Drawing Guide Project

Gabriela Michel Terán created a digital drawing guide to simplify the drawing process with technology.

The Method

  • Reference: Students take photos on tablets.
  • Geometry: Overlay guiding lines (circles, triangles) on the screen.
  • Replication: Draw shapes by hand on paper, turning complex objects into simple geometry.
  • Filters: Use black-and-white filters to see light, shadow, and volume.

Impact

Tech becomes a pedagogical ally. Students lose the fear of “I can’t draw,” and the classroom becomes a hybrid studio where analog and digital “talk to each other.”

Tech + PE: “Mi primer podcast deportivo”

Oscar (PE Teacher) wanted PE to be more than just “recess.” He launched a student-run sports podcast to connect physical, mental, and social dimensions of sport.

Student Roles

  • Presenter: Guides the conversation.
  • Analyst: Interprets statistics.
  • Researcher: Gathers background info.
  • Tech Lead: Handles sound, recording, and editing (using GarageBand/iPads).

Results

Recorded 10 episodes with ~450 plays. The most popular episode featured students who don’t like sports, showing how they found their voice through storytelling.

The Coaches Couch – Teacher Community

A non-profit, volunteer community of educators created to share pedagogical best practices and support teachers across Mexico.

How it Works

Central question: “¿Cómo estás transformando la educación en lo que haces?”

  • Process: Call for speakers -> Co-design -> Rehearsal -> Live Webinar.
  • Season 1: 8 sessions, 24 presenters, covering topics like critical thinking and digital citizenship.
The Three “T”s:
Tiempo: Everyone donates time.
Técnica: Bringing real expertise.
Tribu: Building a tribe that crosses borders.
